Ultimately, above suspicion fails the test of a true story film in that reading about the actual case is more interesting than watching the movie about it. There was a time that a thriller like above suspicion would.

I never heard of the story of how a federal agent would have an affair with an informant, let alone an adulterous and scandalous affair. Unfortunately, noyce never elevates this film above what feels like lifetime movie quality melodrama. Several individuals are shot, and some of them are killed.

Susan smith (emilia clarke) has spent her entire life in pikesville, ky.like most people that feel trapped in a small, rural. The title of above suspicion is misleading, not because it doesnt apply, but because thats not really what its all about. Then a drug dealer's bullet paralyzes him for life and dempsey's world is shattered.

Both variety and the hollywood reporter assigned british reviewers to the online release of above suspicion in the uk. Director phillip noyce has been screening above suspicion to select blogger critics in los angeles, though no release date has been announced yet. Here's one excellent review posted this week on jeffrey wells's influential hollywood elsewhere, under the headline the girl from lonesome holler. some excerpts:

But sadly, this movie is not good enough, the screenplay was lame, all the other supporting actors, some were wrong cast, some of them were not given the chance to do well since the screenplay was so lame and poorly crafted. Above suspicion sure does paint the sort of picture about putnam that would make you feel hes that sort of person. Shot ages ago and delayed multiple times, its the kind of project that people like clarke and huston can walk away from and pretend never really happened.

Above suspicion is noyces first feature film since the underrated 2010 action thriller salt, and it is disappointing to watch the australian filmmaking veteran return to the big screen with a whimper, rather than a bang. Released after sitting five years on the shelf, it is painfully obvious why no one was rushing to release above suspicion, as its a deeply unpleasant, abhorrent, flat movie with no redeeming characters while maintaining a strong pagan worldview with a depressing ending, lots of strong foul language, disturbing violence, rampant drug abuse, and a story promoting adultery. I couldnt see ever going to see this in a theater.

Dempsey cain is an honored cop, a loving husband and father, and mentor to his handsome younger brother. Above suspicion is based on a true story and it's the story you've heard a million times, but it's always happening somewhere. This is not an interesting or inspiring enough movie.

The entertainment value is marginal, and its mostly due to clarke and some high production values that keep the film buoyed for most of its average running time. Tart, pushy, believably pugnacious, clarke Also based on joe sharkey's book, likewise called above suspicion, this film adaptation feels like it can't decide whether susan is victim or villain, and the same goes for mark putnam.

Above suspicion puts a lot of emphasis on salacious details, but not enough on exposition. On paper above suspicion sounds like a winner. Above suspicion (movie review) plot:

Above suspicion is rated r by the mpaa for sexual content and drug use throughout, language and some strong violence. The reviews are now starting to trickle in after the movie was released there, and they basically say that emilia clarke walks away with the movie. There are several instances of severe physical violence including beatings, bar fights, and a fatal choking.

This was a decently made movie.
